DOUBLE A SECURITY, INC.
Marks USA's Custom Lockset division is about problem solving. If you have a unique situation, high abuse area or need a specialized high security application, then Marks USA might have the answer you're looking for. Because we're a smaller manufacturing facility with engineering, tool making and test facilities all on site, we have the ability to make small runs of highly customized products in relatively short time frames that other manufacturers wouldn't consider. Each of the products listed below is the result of close work between our company and the customer.
NYC Board of Education (BE101) / Los Angeles School Districts (LA118)
Soon after the Americans with Disabilities ACT (ADA) was enacted in 1988, inner-city students soon discovered new lever handles required by the law presented an opportunity to apply tremendous amounts of torque that was previously unavailable with knob sets. Armed with broom handles, pipes and baseball bats, vandals could easily break into any locked schoolroom.
Working with the New York City and Los Angels Boards of Education, Marks USA developed a stronger, more durable mortise lock, utilizing heat-treated steel components and a unique cam on the outside of the mortise case. The Boards were so pleased, they made the Marks product the standard throughout their districts.
Bellevue Hospital, New York City
When Belleview Hospital needed to prevent patient injuries in their Psychiatric Wards, they turned to Marks USA to develop customized trim that could not be held onto or would catch clothing restraints. The result is the SS50 Institutional Life Safety Lockset. This lockset is designed for the psychiatric industry to help reduce patient self inflicted injuries.
Chicago Housing Authority
Chicago's Housing Authority approached Marks USA when they needed a solution for renovating their aging, heavily vandalized low income housing projects. We designed and fabricated custom, thru-bolted trim that provided tenants with superior security, while at the same time allowing the Housing Authority to save millions of dollars. The new trim covered generations of previous mounting holes, allowing the HA to continue using the doors that were already in place.
Trump Houses, NYC & Mandarin House, Shanghai
A New York City Developer wanted to provide hotel-like amenities in his building while still providing unit owners with piece of mind. The problem was that piece of mind typically involved unit owners installing a wide variety of locks on their own, ruining the clean aesthetic of the hallways. For this project, we developed a tall slender trim plate which called to mind the proportions of the building itself. Behind this elegant plate are a mortise lock and a mortise deadbolt. The mortise lock is keyed to the concierge's master key and the apartment key, while the mortise deadbolt key is retained by the unit owner. Unit owners can easily have this mortise deadbolt cylinder re-keyed at will to any high security cylinder. But any changes remain hidden beneath a uniform exterior.
United States Transit Security Administration, Washington, DC
Which side of the door is outside? When you're talking airport security, every side is outside. Doors that open onto the TARMAC or maintenance areas have to stay shut for everyone except authorized personnel. Existing access control devices didn't address this functionality. So Marks USA developed the double sided i-Que. An access control device with a single computer chip, but 2 keypads. This custom locket features a special audit trail which tracks openings by pass code used and direction.
